The European Central Bank on Thursday made its sixth interest-rate hike in a year, lifting its base rate by a quarter point as the European economy continues to accelerate and as the money supply accelerates more rapidly than it wants. The rate hike, to 3.5% from 3.25%, was widely expected by economists. Attention will turn to the post-decision press conference, due to start at 8:30 a.m. Eastern, for the ECB's views on 2007. |
