Initial claims for U.S. state unemployment fell another 8,000 to an 11-month low of 290,000 in the Jan. 13 week, the Labor Department reported Thursday morning, citing no special factors.
Initial claims came in at the low end of expectations. Forecasts in a Market News International survey had indeed centered on 315,000 new claims, within a range of 290,000 to 320,000.
Initial adjusted claims were last lower in the week ending Feb. 18, 2006, at 289,000. |
