SILVER PRICES ARE UP

New uses for silver in electronics such as flat screen televisions and mobile phones have offset a decline in demand from photography and helped boost prices by 57% this year to more than $11.50/ounce through September. Scotiabank Economics chief Patricia Mohr warns buyers that prices could temporarily spike over $15, though new mine start-ups may start to moderate prices in the second half of 2007.
