The composite consumer price index (CPI) in June was up 1.3 pct
from a year earlier, compared with a 1.2 pct increase in May, the
government said.
A government spokesman said the larger year-on-year increase of
consumer price inflation in June compared with May was due mainly to an increase in the prices of pork resulting from a supply
shortage.
He said government concessions relating to certain property deals
also had some impact on CPI.
The composite CPI increase would have stood at 2.4 pct barring
the rate concessions.
Of the various CPI components in June, food - excluding meals
bought away from home - registered the largest increase at 4.5 pct year-on-year, followed by clothing and footwear which rose by 4.0
pct, and meals bought away from home with a 2.0 pct increase.
The cost of miscellaneous services rose 1.9 pct, while miscellaneous goods were up 1.8 pct.
Among segments that recorded price declines in June, durable goods fell 4.5 pct, followed by alcoholic drinks at 2.4 pct and electricity,
gas and water at 1.5 pct.
The government spokesman said that rising food prices would
continue to play a bigger role in affecting inflation in the near term.
"However, the rates concession for the third quarter and other one-off measures to be introduced later in the year (will) continue to
keep the inflation number down in the second half of the year," he added.
He said that rapid labor productivity growth should also provide
some cushion against overall inflationary pressures.
